They are linen, not a thick multi layer placemat. I have quite a few Solino runners I use for dresser scarves as well as a Solino tablecloth. Not as thick as a Waterford one I have, but 1/2 the price. These are more table dressing than a protector. Washed in the washing machine. Dried in the dryer for maybe 6 minutes on low then ironed on the steam setting. Nice and crisp. If you are looking for low maintenance these are not for you. Personally the little bit of care and effort is well worth it. They will be used tonight and every night. Bought the white ones as well. Probably use them for more special occasions, my other half can be quite messy at times.

These placemats are very well made and are double sided with different colors which makes them super versatile. I painted a winter tree scene on some for a housewarming gift and they loved them. Would highly recommend them.

These are great placemats. My mother-in-law was able to embroider these. She loved how easy it was to use them and how her work turned out. I would buy these again.

I took a photo of these four mats as compared to four normal placemats. As you can see, they are very thin - even thinner than many of my cloth napkins. There is no way to use them for placemats , especially if you were to place something hot on them. Also, they arrived folded into fourths inside this small box. I seriously doubted, had I kept them, that I could ever get the creases ironed out. They did seem well made and I loved the color, but they are being returned.

I really liked these. They are simple but well made. They have mitered corners to finish the edges, they are not too thick and not too thin. I washed them once and they came out fine. I used a hot iron then to press out the wrinkles and they pressed very well.
